Post-mortem analyses in IT environments: Learning from incidents – systematically and sustainably

Failures are part of everyday life in IT. Systems are becoming more complex, dependencies more numerous, and even with a high degree of automation, technical faults or misconfigurations are inevitable. But every incident also presents an opportunity: the chance to learn systematically and become more resilient.

Post-mortem analysis – also known as a post-incident review – is a key tool for turning incidents into real progress. It makes it possible to work through causes and processes in a structured manner, identify weak points in the system or in processes and derive targeted improvement measures. And: it promotes open, cross-team communication if – as recommended – it is carried out without apportioning blame.

In recent months, I have accompanied such analyses in complex communication environments myself. The findings were valuable for everyone involved: they helped to avoid similar incidents in the future, make processes more efficient and noticeably increase service availability.

With over 20 years of experience in IT and a focus on communication systems, I support organizations in implementing post-mortem analyses professionally – pragmatically, in a structured manner and with a clear focus on sustainable improvement. I not only bring methodical know-how, but also a deep technical understanding of real operating environments.

If you not only want to resolve incidents, but also learn from them, please contact me. I will be happy to assist you with the introduction or implementation of effective post-mortem analyses – regardless of whether you are dealing with acute incidents, recurring problems or strategic lessons learned.

Yours sincerely
