AI in everyday office life and its challenges: Lecture at the TGA symposium and the GTÜ-BQÜ regional day

At this year’s TGA symposium of b.v.s. Saxony and the 19th GTÜ-BQÜ/Bau Regional Day on November 28, 2024, I had the opportunity to give a presentation entitled “AI as a helper in everyday office life”. I highlighted both the benefits of AI-supported tools for everyday work and the risks that can arise from AI-generated content.

Important contents of the presentation:

  1. AI as an office assistant

We presented the participants with various practical applications of AI systems such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot as well as lesser-known systems such as Poe and Perplexity. These included:
    – Automation of routine tasks such as document creation or text revision.
    – Use of AI for research and creative idea generation.
    – Increased efficiency in the creation of reports.

  2. Challenges posed by AI generation

A key topic was the manipulation of content by AI, especially images and texts. We illustrated how generative models create content that appears authentic at first glance , but contains false or manipulated information.

  3. EXIF data

Tool for detecting image manipulation One focus was on the so-called EXIF data (Exchangeable Image File Format). This metadata contains technical information about a photo, such as:

    – Camera details (manufacturer, model, serial number).
    – Shooting settings (aperture, ISO value, focal length).
    – Date, time and GPS data.
    – Information on the editing software used.

EXIF data can be used to detect manipulation by AI. For example, if certain metadata is missing or indicates unusual editing software, this can be an indication of a change.
Conclusion and invitation to dialogue

The presentation was met with great interest, especially from our expert colleagues who are increasingly confronted with AI-generated content. We look forward to exploring the topic further and are convinced that informed use of AI can offer benefits if attention is also paid to identifying risks.
